COFFEE AT COMO

AD CAMPAIGN

OBJECTIVE For this project, the objective was to create a set of three 8”x10” single-page ad spreads and one 16”x10” spread. The idea was to interest young adults into getting them to come to and enjoy a St. Paul park of our choosing.

SOLUTION The park that was chosen was the one most familiar to me, Como Park Zoo & Conservatory. For the ads, I decided on creating a fictitious event, Coffee at Como, where people could go and try different coffees found around the world. The event’s slogan, “Life is Wild. Take a Break.” invites coffee lovers to come and take a break from their busy lives. The background, a darker blue, gives a feeling of it being outdoors and complements the animal fur patterns chosen.

ZOO ANIMAL

With the use of a Photoshop tutorial I found online to integrate a fur texture onto text, I adjusted it, allowing me to add the image of a selected zoo animal fur/hair texture onto a travel cup cozie. Before choosing the cup cozie, I originally added the texture to a mug (inspired by Meret Oppenheim, Object, 1936) but while it was found to be interesting and very eye-catching, it felt off and a little unsettling, leading to the use of a coffee cozie instead. The choice of animals, the snow leopard, polar bear, and zebra were made to create a set of three visually similar in color, but more could be made using the same technique for different animals to create an overall ‘zoo’ set.
